CHARLES STOREY – CAN YOU HELP HIS FAMILY

I am writing about the above-named, brother of my grandfather, who was Captain of the Whangarei County Rifle Club when he died on 30 July 1894 while Postmaster. Charles had been Captain of the Whangarei Rifle Volunteer Corps when it was disbanded in 1892. The Club was formed to replace the Corps and Charles was its third Captain. Club members carried Charles’ coffin out of his house to the hearse and were present at the funeral service in Christ Church.

Charles Storey. He was born in the last quarter of 1857 West Yorkshire.
His family arrived in Wellington from England in March 1859.
Charles’ eldest son was Charles Leonard Storey, born in Whangarei on 16 August 1885.
He was a well-known dentist, with chambers in Cameron Street, and also as an all-round sportsman (rugby, rowing, swimming, hockey, tennis). He died on 8 September 1927.
Any information or pictures would be greatly appreciated by his family.
