Ronald Gurney’s Remembrance 14/04/1920 – 01/04/2006

Ron Gurneys’s two loves in life were shooting and his wife Verna who was his constant companion at meetings right throughout his shooting career. He was a respected and honoured member of the Whangarei Rifle Club for over 30 years.  He was a one Time president and five times northland champion. Ron attended the National Shoot in Trentham for fifty years with his best coming fourth overall. He was also a selector for New Zeland rifle teams on several occasions which included overseas tours as well as being a National coach. The Whangarei Rifle Club will forever grateful to Ron for his loyalty and his contributions to the younger members with equipment, experience or finance when the need arose. Ron died peacefully in Whangarei on the 1st April 2006, from this day on we will continue to remember him and all that he stood for in the rifle shooting community and how he helped the Whangarei Rifle Club.
